The Compact Audio Cassette (CAC) or Music Cassette (MC) – also commonly called ‘cassette tape’, ‘audio cassette’, ‘tape’, or ‘cassette’ – is an analogue magnetic tape recording format for audio recording and playback. It was released by Philips in 1963, having been developed in Hasselt, Belgium.
Compact cassettes come in two forms: a pre-recorded cassette (with content already contained therein) or a fully recordable “blank” cassette.
